This was described as the race of the day which is some accolade considering the quality of card on show. After his epic weight carrying success in last months Greatwood Hurdle; Menorah was sent off favourite for the International ahead of Champion Bumper winner Cue Card and new sensation Silviniaco Conti. He proved hugely impressive especially in the way he came between and past Cue Card and Clerks Choice travelling towards two out.
Early reports suggest that Menorah will now head straight to the Champion Hurdle without another race. Best price now 7/2. Connections of Cue Card are still deciding on either the Supreme Novices or the Champion Hurdle. You have to be impressed with the way Cue Card travelled throughout the race and in the manner he kept on under pressure; he simply met a better horse on the day. Clerks Choice also ran a blinder in fourth place and it will be interesting to see what he is aimed at for The Festival.
The Champion Hurdle is shaping up to be the race of the Festival. A mouth watering provisional line up suggests: Binocular, Hurricane Fly, Peddlers Cross, Menorah, Cue Card, Solwhit, Khyber Kim and Dunguib.
Roll on March!
