On Thursday 21 November, Chepstow Racecourse are hosting a charity race day in aid of Paul’s Place, who provide support for physically disabled adults. The seven race card is complimented by a charity camel race (full details below) If you cannot get to Chepstow on Thursday, you can bid for the excellent auction lots by phone (which are also listed below). I will be donning the role of race day pundit for the day and I am delighted to be involved in this very worthwhile event.

CAMEL RACE

Two, four camel qualifying heats will be run over a distance of 1 furlong immediately after the conclusion of the National Hunt racecard. The first two camels in each heat will contest the final of the William Hill Derby to be run as the last race of the day.

Paul’s Place have organised a star-studded line up for the camel race including At the Races TV presenter Matt Chapman, leading Three -Day event rider Laura Collett and Actor Sean Gleeson. Other ‘jockeys’ competing include Killian Moore, Tim Hart, Nathan Ellis and Andrew Smith.

Laura Day, Chairman of Trustees at Paul’s Place said: “We’re thrilled to be bringing the Camel Derby to Chepstow; which is for many of our users their local racecourse. It’s a great opportunity to have a bit of fun with racing, as well as raising awareness of the work of Paul’s Place in Bristol and the surrounding area.”

The William Hill Camel Derby will also be shown live on At The Races with commentary from Channel 4’s Richard Hoiles.

In addition to the camel race Paul’s Place are encouraging registered race horse owners to pledge a £100 donation to have their colours displayed in the commemorative racecard with eight sets of colours being drawn prior to the day to be worn by the camel jockeys, whose silks are being made and donated by Allerton & Co.

All the jockeys are looking for as many sponsors as possible, to find out more about how you can donate visit: www.justgiving.com/Yeeehaaa
